Vasl resident artists are encouraged to share their field of expertise with students from underprivileged backgrounds. Vasl continues to create links with regional communities through contemporary art. As a photographer with journalistic experience, in addition to having an artistic practice, Wei Leng Tay proposed a day long photography workshop with students from Matchless Public School and Superior Secondary, Orangi Town. The students learnt the basic functioning of a digital camera. They were guided on how to use light and create interesting compositions using the OPP Centre as their location. The students were split into groups of 5 and were given the task to capture objects, colours and compositions which represented ‘happiness’ to them.
